The second time he visits, he called the manufacturer and spoke to them for a few minutes. When he was done, he told me they don't make the parts anymore and Maytag has never heard of this issue, so his recommendation is to keep doing what we have been doing, running the dryer for 30 minutes at a time and restarting it.

We had two separate visits from an appliance technician to attempt to diagnose the issues with our dryer, where it would take multiple cycles to dry. The first visit, he performed no actual diagnosis besides turning the dryer on and told us we needed to clean our vents. We get our vents professionally cleaned (at relatively significant cost to us, > $200), but the dryer still doesn't work.
Charged me $105 to tell me my washer was not fixable in a 3 minute assessment. Then told me they "should" charge more because of my profession after seeing my work vehicle parked outside of my home.
As we start researching replacement dryers, I decided to look up the service manual for the dryer. Sure enough, they have a troubleshooting section on drying problems, specifically taking too long to dry (seems as if they've encountered this problem, huh?). Having ruled out everything else in the list, I decide to look at the gas valve coils. Not only are these still manufactured (and have been, the same part, by Whirlpool for 30+ years), but they were cheap ($11 on Amazon with next day [Sunday] shipping).
Technician was friendly and profession. Fast response on return service. I would highly recommend for all your appliance repair needs. They also have a parts department that has come in handy for small repairs I could do. Light bulbs, Refrigerator Water Filter and a friendly smile to answer any questions!!!!
It took me 30 minutes to remove the front panel of the dryer, replace the gas valve coils (solenoids) and put the panel back on.
My ice maker works again! Thanks Brett
Our dryer is now fully operational, no thanks to Appliance ASAP.
